Gear
Tier Sets
With the third Dragonflight raid Amirdrassil, the Dream's Hope comes a new tier set for Discipline Priests. This tier set grants some new bonuses when wearing 2 and 4 pieces of the armor set.
- 2-Piece: Smite and Penance damage increased by 20% and Smite extends the duration of an active Atonement by 2.0 sec.
- 4-Piece: Smite has a 100% chance to cast an additional time during Shadow Covenant, dealing (80% of Spell power) Shadow damage.
First lets talk a bit about the 2-piece bonus for this tier set. This bonus is a rather simple damage buff to 2 of your main discipline abilities that have in the past tiers felt a bit neglected, this tier set, along with the spec talent changes, makes both smite and penance a lot more attractive to press, and a large majority of your atonement healing will now come through these 2 abilities.
Now on to the 4-piece bonus. This bonus also reads rather simple, but it forces Discipline Priests into playing Shadow Covenant and in turn makes Shadowfiend and Mindbender stronger cooldowns as they've also lost a lot of their power in recent times, this bonus also double downs on the change the 2 piece makes, making you want to press smite in your ramps even more.
Both of these bonuses fit the Discipline rework well and are trying to push the spec in the same direction as the talent changes have.

Trinkets
With a new patch comes new trinkets to hunt down. The first two trinkets we'll talk about are your BiS for pure healing throughput. However, you won't always have your best option on hand immediately on patch launch, therefore we will also mention some alternative trinkets that are still great options to pick up.
Balefire Branch - This trinket comes from the mythic+ dungeon Waycrest Manor. And this is the best option Discipline Priest has for an on use trinket to pair with your ramps, it lines perfectly with Evangelism and will therefore be seen as one of the go to options for Discipline. However this trinket does have the downside of not performing well on the last 2 bosses of mythic, since it goes down in value heavily if used during fast ticking damage, which is exactly the situation you’d want to ramp in, it's recommended that you use Ashes of the Embersoul and either a passive trinket or another on use to pair with it on the last 2 fights of Amirdrassil, the Dream’s Hope.
Pip’s Emerald Friendship Badge - This trinket comes from the boss Council of Dreams in Amirdrassil, the Dream’s Hope. This is a passive trinket that grants Critical Strike, Mastery and Versatility, it's Disciplines strongest option for a passive trinket, but you will have heavy competition for this trinket, as it is good for a large majority of specs, so you might need to seek out a passive trinket from one of the mythic+ dungeons.
Echoing Tyrstone - This trinket comes from the mythic+ dungeon Dawn of the Infinites: Murozond’s Rise. This is a bit of an unusual on use trinket as it only procs, whenever someone in your raid falls below a certain threshold. However this will happen naturally on progression a lot, and the overall throughput coming from this trinket is fairly high and will easily compete with other trinkets.
Coagulated Genesaur Blood - This trinket comes from the mythic+ dungeon The Everbloom. It is your best option for a passive trinket if you aren’t able to pick up Pip’s from the raid and it performs very similarly to it. If you plan to swap spec to holy it is also one of the better trinkets for that spec.
Idol of the Dreamer - This trinket can be crafted by jewelcrafters. This will generally not be an option you’d pick up early on in the patch, but it looks to be rather strong later on in the patch when your character is fully geared and has sparks to play around with.
Ashes of the Embersoul - This trinket comes from the boss Smolderon in Amirdrassil, the Dream’s Hope. This trinket is in many situations a worse alternative to the Balefire Branch trinket, but it is stronger in 2 very important situations, that being the last bosses in the current raid, therefore we highly recommend picking this trinket up when possible.
Sea Star - This trinket comes from the mythic+ dungeon Throne of the Tides. Sea Star will be seen as a bridge item between your season 2 gear and the other option for passive trinkets, it isn't bad, but it gets outshined by any of the above passive trinkets, it is however an option to play double passive trinket if you plan to respec holy at some point, so don't just throw it away immediately.
Nymue’s Unraveling Spindle - This trinket comes from the boss Nymue in Amirdrassil, the Dream’s Hope. This trinket is mainly seen as a dps trinket, but it isn't a bad option for healers as it does good damage for low maintenance, and also contributes fairly well to your hps. Most healer trinkets are currently not tuned as high as we are used to, so some healers might opt into wearing this.
Blossom of Amirdrassil - This trinket comes from the boss Fyraak in Amirdrassil, the Dream’s Hope and is classified as a rare item. Unlike most other trinkets, this trinket does not have intellect on it, but instead it comes with haste. Its effect is also rather weak and therefore this trinket is seen as rather week, however it is still better than trinkets from the previous tier, so it could be used as a temporary trinket.
Trinkets from the previous season like Rashok’s Molten Heart, Screaming Black Dragonscale and Ominous Chromatic Essence are still great options to use for Discipline Priest, but later on in the season they will most likely be outscaled by the new trinkets from this patch.
Notable Items
Imbued Frostweave Slippers - These boots drop from the boss Blight of Galakrond from the Mythic+ dungeon Dawn of the Infinites: Galakrond’s Fall. They are special in the way that they can drop with Spirit on them, giving you some free mana regeneration that is a noticeable gain. This effect is much better in raid scenarios where mana is more sparse, however in dungeons they can be a good item to have as well. The mana it provides is worth equipping these boots over any other choices, even max item level ones.
Embellishments
With the revamped profession system in Dragonflight you’ll be able to put 2 Embellishments on your armor. These are powerful bonuses that help you out in some way shape or form, whether it be stat bonuses, random procs or quality of life changes. Here are the best embellishments for Discipline Priest:
Allied Wristguards of Time Dilation: With the recent nerfs to most other embellishments, this embellishment is starting to look a lot better, it provides a versatility buff to both you and your party/raid members, it does however come with the restrictions that it has to be crafted on the wrist slot and you cant select your own stats, currently the stats on the wrists are sub-optimal for Discipline, but the effect of the item is strong enough that it shouldn't matter.
Elemental Lariat: Lariat has previously been a universally strong embellishment for most classes, but it took a large hit at the end of season 1, but with all the recent nerfs to most embellishments, this neck is now back on the table. You do not want to craft this embellishment as your first option as the stat budget on necks are really low, but it is a good item to crafter a few weeks into the patch, due to the power of the embellishment effect.
Spark of Dreams Crafting Priority
- Allied Wristguards of Time Dilation, this embellishment effect is the strongest effect you can get for yourself, and on top of that it also buffs your allies, this is for sure going to be one of your best crafts in the first weeks.
- If you are unable to obtain a good weapon it is a decent option to craft a main hand weapon to bump up your power temporarily, you should really think before you decide to go this path in crafting.
- Elemental Lariat, this should be your 2nd or 3rd craft, but it will almost never be your first craft, as the power gain from other crafts is much larger.
