Assassination Rogue Gearing Guide

Gearing as Assassination is relatively easy. There aren’t many “required” pieces of gear, and most generic slots with no special effects can be filled by any high-item level piece you can get your hands on, as Assassinations stats are relatively close. Even PvP gear is good, as long as you don’t stack Versatility very much.

Some Special Items to watch out for are:

Witherbark’s Branch - This on-use Trinket from Everbloom is crazy strong for both single target and Mythic+. You will want to farm for one of these. To note about its usage. When you use the trinket, you will spawn 3 orbs around you that slowly travel towards your character. Walking into these orbs gives a stacking mastery buff. In order to maximize the usage of the trinket, you will want to grab two of the orbs early, and hold off on collecting the third for a couple seconds in order to extend the buff.

Nick of Time - This special dagger from the Dawn of the Infinite dungeon has a special “timestrike” stat. This stat causes an echo of your damage to be dealt. It’s a minor effect overall, but it is an added effect that you won’t see on daggers usually, causing two of these to be best in slot. Make sure you simulate yourself on these however, as item level is still very important.

Cataclysmic Signet Brand - This trinket is very potent in single target alongside the Witherbark’s Branch, but loses a lot of value when you have to change targets.

Pip’s Emerald Friendship Badge - When Cataclysmic Signet Brand isn’t the prime trinket, chances are this would be your next go-to for raid and especially for mythic+

You will want to of course grab your Tier Set pieces from the Raid. My recommended slots are Hands, Shoulder, Head, and Chest. This is because of our embellishments and general stat optimizations. You should keep your leg slot open just in case, as completing your set bonus is a priority over any specific item you could get in those slots.

Crafted Gear can be a great option, but is timegated and requires you to farm materials. For Embellishments, I recommend crafting the following:

1. Toxic Thorn Footwraps
2. Life-Bound Bindings with Toxified Armor Patch

Use any Remaining Sparks for low item level pieces. Some good slots are usually main hand dagger, bracers and ring.
